For the remainder of the term we will be learning about Canada. We will be focusing on identifying major features of Canada on a map and on the symbols of Canada. You can support your child's growth in this unit by pointing out Canadian symbols on coins (also a great time to introduce coin values too!) and dollar bills. Additionally, you can talk about Canadian cities, provinces and territories that might have meaning to you and your family (i.e. places family members live or have visited). This past week the students explored the meaning of the words in the Canadian anthem and then worked is groups to illustrate sections. Pairs had to collaborate and decide on a theme for their drawings and set a plan for how to proceed. It was a great opportunity to develop social thinking skills! With the support of our Vice Principal and help from students in both grade three and five, we have made an informational video about recycling. Lots of brainstorming and collaboration went into the making of the video - not to mention giggles and retakes! As you probably already know we are currently studying plants in Science. We are learning about the basic needs of plants, how plants are important and how plants change through the seasons. This past week we spent some time looking at seeds and explored all the different sizes and colours seeds come in. |
