As you probably already know our school totem pole was unveiled on Friday. It was carved on the school grounds by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Tony Hunt Junior. It was special for all of us to peek into the tent these last three months and see the cedar pole take shape. The raven at the top of the pole symbolizes cleverness and the measurement of knowledge, the beaver in the middle is an industrious, hard working animal, and at the bottom, the face of a child is present to represent all of our students. Today, I took the students outside so we could sit around the pole and write about it. The kids wrote about the animals, the colours and who carved it. Comments are closed.
